The Hereford Breed is one of the oldest breeds in Canada. They originated from Herefordshire England. They are known as a hardy breed that thrives in the harshest climates on every continent. They were originally exported from Britain in 1817 to Kentucky USA and quickly spread across the US, Canada, Mexico and South America. Hereford cattle are very docile, and easy fleshing cattle with a good hair coat. They are traditionally red coated with white faces, feet, belly and switch. The Canadian Hereford Association is a great resource for membership information and history on the individual animals genetics. As they say “It’s time to better your beef, and better your business, with the tried and true benefit of Hereford”. Check out the www.hereford.ca webpage for more info.
